Extremely Rare, Very Early Antique Pocket Broadside, Election Campaign Ticket Summary, Republican & Democratic, c.1840
    DESCRIPTION:
Very rare and unusual to find today is this paper summary of the tickets running for a particular election. No place indicated, but probably New York or Massachusetts. Appears to be a city or county wide election.
Scans show it all. 4 names listed for each party. BEST PART IS THE LARGE OVERSIZED EAGLE SHOWN TO REPRESENT THE REPUBLICANS AND THE SIMILARLY LARGE ROOSTER REPRESENTING THE DEMOCRATS.
Made to be folded, and intended to fit into a pocket. APPEARS TO BE SOME SORT OF REMINDER OF THE VARIOUS CANDIDATES FOR EACH OFFICE, TO BE TAKEN INTO THE POLLS WHEN VOTING. Measures just about 5 1/2" x 4 3/4". Printed on very early paper, yellowed with time. Back shows that it was folded many times in a pleasing pattern as shown.
This would look framed on a wall or as part of an early collection of unusual political items. It is partly separated in the center fold, but otherwise in excellent condition for the age. I believe from the appearance that this is very early, c.1830-40.
One of the earliest, rarest political items I have ever owned.
Would make a nice gift item for the collector in your family!!
