Sir John Simon UK Foreign Secretary 1933 Signed Photo Card & Envelope
John Allsebrook Simon, 1st Viscount Simon, (28 February 1873 - 11 January 1954), was a British politician who held senior Cabinet posts from the beginning of the First World War to the end of the Second World War. He is one of only three people to have served as Home Secretary, Foreign Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer, the others being Rab Butler and James Callaghan.
He also served as Lord Chancellor, the most senior position in the British legal system. Beginning his career as a Liberal (identified initially with the left wing but later with the right wing of the party), he joined the National Government in 1931, creating the Liberal National Party in the process. At the end of his career, he was essentially a Conservative.
Lot comprised by:
a) 5" x 8" Card with printed photo of Sir John Simon and Paul Hymans during the London Economic Conference. Card is hand written, dedicated and signed by Sir Simon while on vacation at Rio de Janeiro, on August 9, 1933. Condition: Excellent - (Slightest foxing)
b) Front cover of envelope used to send the card. Postmarked from Copacabana, RJ, Brazil, on August 10, 1933. Condition: Very Good +

From the collection of Alejandro Zorrilla de San Martin (birth: Montevideo, Uruguay, September 21, 1880 - death: Montevideo, Uruguay: December 12, 1941), who spent over 20 years collecting autographs mainly from prominent political figures worldwide. He used to send blank cards with a newspaper or magazine clipped photo of the person, attaching a letter asking for an autograph and including a self-addressed envelope.
