Shoe Button Cover Victorian deco era shell design

Description

Old button cover, unknown metals, but in a very deco shell style.  Marked with "?.S. Pat 1419034" (probably "U.S." but the stamp looks more like a "B" than a "U").  Another seller with a current listing on Ebay for these, thought it might be military, but I don't know.  It has a little of the plated metal missing at the bottom, but otherwise looks nice... cool design.
