    Description

(This is a new auction, not a relisting!)
    This
is a very nice used example of a 21½" Schwinn-Approved Sting-Ray speedometer cable by Huret, part number 08 472, just what you need for Huret-built Schwinn speedometer installations on Sting-Rays, Fastbacks or other bikes with 20" front wheels.
(For Schwinn Krates, which have extended springer forks and 16" front wheels, s
ee my other listings for a New Old Stock 23½" Krate cable, in an auction scheduled to end 15 minutes after this one
    .)
This is compatible with all Huret-manufactured Schwinn Approved speedometers (usually stamped "MADE IN FRANCE" on the back), as well as Huret's own brand of speedometers. (It does not fit the large, round Stewart-Warner speedometers.)
It's in full working order with solid connectors and a good core. There are a couple of small cracks in the plastic coating at the bottom end
    (see photo 3),
but they are under the external brace and are definitely not obvious. Both collars are firmly attached, it curves smoothly and will install with no problems. E
verything is all intact, and it works fine
    .
    CAUTION:
Please be sure that your speedometer head is turning freely before installing this cable.
Bicycle speedometer cables usually break because the speedometer head has seized up from years of storage.
    Replacing the cable will
    not
    free up the speedo head;
it will simply break the new cable as soon as you start pedaling. To check that your speedometer head is able to turn properly, insert a small flat-blade screwdriver in the back of the speedo head (where the cable goes in), and be sure that the square-holed inner barrel of the speedometer head can turn freely before connecting this cable.
    NOTES:
Please see notes above on its condition. The core has been cleaned and lubricated.
This is not for Stewart-Warner speedometers.
This is a Huret speedometer part.
