Peter Hughes (1878 - 24 June 1954) was an Irish politician. A publican and a farmer, he was a member of Louth County Council and Dundalk Urban District Council. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the 1921 general election as a Sinn Féin Teachta Dála (TD) for the Louth-Meath constituency.
As a supporter of the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 he later went on to join Cumann na nGaedheal. He was appointed to the Cabinet in 1924, serving as
Minister for Defence
until 1927. Although he was a member of the government he lost his Dáil seat at the June 1927 general election, and failed to be elected in the two subsequent general elections.

a) 6" 1/2 x 5" Card with printed photo showing street scene with armoured military car. Signed and dated 16/6/25 by Peter Hughes, Minister of Defence of the Irish Free State by then. Condition: Very Good + (Very light foxing, mounting remnants on reverse).
b) Letter with blindstamp letterhead of the Department of Defence, Dublin, typed and hand signed by Peter Hugues, dated June 16, 1925. Condition: Excellent -
c) Front Cover of Envelope which was used to send the card and letter, postmarked June 22, 1925. Condition: Very Good (Light foxing)

From the collection of Alejandro Zorrilla de San Martin (birth: Montevideo, Uruguay, September 21, 1880 - death: Montevideo, Uruguay: December 12, 1941), who spent over 20 years collecting autographs mainly from prominent political figures worldwide. He used to send blank cards with a newspaper or magazine clipped photo of the person, attaching a letter asking for an autograph and including a self-addressed envelope.
