    Description

Signed personal letter dated Jan.24, 1968 from former beloved Governor of the State of Ct. John Dempsey. The letter belonged to a very dear friend of mine, the late Virginia Alma Knox who retired from the Ct. State Library after many years of service. The Governor's letter congratulates her on her retirement and future endeavors. There is a wing at Glastonbury's Gideon Welles Library named in her honor. Virginia spent her entire life in her ancestral home on Main St. As a historian..she knew Glastonbury like the back of her hand. I still remember back in the 1980's following along as she put red geraniums on every Civil War grave at Buckingham Cemetery....as Virginia was a member of the Daughter's of Union Veterans along with her late mother. The penciled date in the upper left is her hand. It is in good condition. A small bit of off color in the LR corner.. There is no envelope.
