Antique 1918 Taylor County WI Sheriff Election Advertising Poster Map Paetzold
For your consideration is this very unique and interesting piece of antique advertising.  It is a promotional advert for a man named Dr. C. Kelnhofer, a licensed veterinary surgeon from Medford, WI who was running for office of Taylor County WI Sheriff as a Republican in the late 1910’s.
Much like political candidates do today, this piece of promotional material was made to promote and support of the candidate featured on the piece.  What’s unique about this particular piece is that it’s not just a poster with the candidate’s name, but also a map of the entire state of Wisconsin that shows state highways and marked roads that existed at the time.  The map was compiled and drawn by a local civil engineer named C.H. Paetzold from Wausau, WI.  From what I have seen, these maps were made for candidates in just about every county in Wisconsin.
This particular piece is in wonderful condition for age.  There are no rips, tears, holes, or wrinkles anywhere on it.  The edges may be slightly jagged, but that’s how they were cut back then.  The paper is thin, almost translucent.  It is a bit yellowed from age.  It has NEVER been folded or rolled, and will be shipped flat with a backer.  It measures 11” x 17”.
