This stunning “El Mono Araña” Alebrije, by the artist Luis Angel Castillo Morales and family.
Luis Angel is well known in his community in Pueblo Nuevo, Oaxaca, for his beautiful work. This piece is one of the extremely time consuming pieces due to its special carving and very fine painting.
Alebrijes are shaped creations based on artist imaginations, dreams or fantasies. The hand carving process uses knives and machetes to shape the copal tree wood, with expert painters creating designs unique to each artist.
