    Description

Pair of vintage metal boxes. Both have “Marion County” stenciled on the front (one in a horizontal orientation, and one vertical). Believed to be from Marion County, Oregon (location of the city capitol at Salem).
They measure approximately 15.5”x13”x4.5”. Each has a latch on the side, but no slot to insert a ballot; they are believed to be for carrying or storing ballots, rather than for the physical process of voting. No locks are included, but the latches do seem designed to accommodate a lock.
They show overall surface wear, and also have multiple large spots of sticker and tape residue. One of these areas still has legible text remaining that suggests that this box was used to hold election ballots. The form itself is dated 1963, so it is likely that this box dates to the 1960s or 1970s.
