    Description

In this typed letter signed Tardieu, as the "High Commissioner of the French Republic in the United States",
writes to E. Lewin-Epstein who is the Treasurer of the Provisional Executive Committee on Zionist Affairs. He states: "M. Monod has submitted to me the documents you have been good enough to communicate. I heard with interest of the dispatching of a Zionist medical unit to Palestina [sic], and of your appointment as manager of the unit. As regards your request, all matters pertaining to passports, etc.., belong to the Ambassador. I take pleasure in reminding him of your application and in asking him whether he should be willing to notify, as suggested, the French Government of your proposed trip and mission."
Written on an 11" x 8 1/2" sheet of "Haut Commissariat" stationery.
Andre Pierre Gabriel Amedee Tardieu (1876-1945) served as France's Prime Minister for three short stints. During the 1920's and 1930's he held numerous political positions in the French government including: Minister of War, Minister of State, Minister of Transportation, etc.
