Thomas Francis Anson, 3rd Earl of Lichfield was born on 31 January 1856
.
He was the son of Thomas George Anson, 2nd Earl of Lichfield and Lady Harriett Georgiana Louisa Hamilton. He married Lady Mildred Coke, daughter of Thomas William Coke, 2nd Earl of Leicester of Holkham and Juliana Whitbread, on 5 November 1878. He died on 29 July 1918 at age 62, following a shooting accident.
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) He succeeded as the 4th Viscount Anson, of Shugborough and Orgrave, co. Stafford [U.K., 1806] on 7 January 1892.
He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Lichfield, co. Stafford [U.K., 1831] on 7 January 1892. He succeeded as the 4th Baron Soberton, of Soberton, co. Southampton [U.K., 1806] on 7 January 1892.
He was a director of the National Provinical Bank.
He was a director of the Bank of Australia.
He was president of the Marylebone Cricket Club.
He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Staffordshire. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Staffordshire
