Description
This is a vintage 1871 check (see picture) signed by A. OAKEY HALL, MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY. Oakey Hall, affectionately known as "Elegant Oakey", was Mayor of New York City from 1869 through 1872. A Republican, he was elected in November 1868, and re-elected in 1870. Mayor Hall passed away in October 1898. This check was payable to an individual for salary as an officer of the Common Pleas Court. It is clean and intact, exhibiting light wear, bank stamps, folds, and creasing from handling and storage over the past 151 years. There are a few very small tears in the check in a specific design, which could have been made by a stamp or other object as evidence of cancellation. This check would make a wonderful addition to your own collection, or it would make a great gift idea for that A. Oakey Hall enthusiast, New York City historian, or vintage autograph collector in your life! Postage is .50. And, of course I'll combine postage on multiple purchases. Sorry, NO international shipping. Be sure to check the other items in my eBay store, too!
