1859 Erastus Corning Letter Signed Approves Address of U.S. Agricultural Society

American industrialist and politician Erastus Corning (1794-1872) signed this letter
written in a secretary's hand in which Corning states his approval of the annual address of the U.S. Agricultural Society. The letter reads: "The committee to whom was referred the annual adress[sic] of Tench Tilghman, Esq, President of the United States Agricultural Society, take pleasure in expressing their opinion that its author exhibits a high order of talent and a thorough knowledge of agricultural wants, and that its recommendations and suggestions, evincing careful consideration of the subject mentioned, are entitled to the early action of the society. Your committee, therefore, respectfully urge the adoption of the address, with a request that the President will furnish a copy for publication.
Corning was involved in the iron industry, banking, railroads, as well as, politics. He was mayor of Albany, NY and a U.S. Congressman.
The letter is also signed by B.V. French and J. Jones, two other members of the Agricultural Society.
Tench Tilghman was the grandson of George Washington's aide-de-camp.
Written on one page of a 9 3/4" x 7 7/8" folded sheet of ruled paper.
Condition:
A few minor spots of soil, fold lines, overall very good condition with a clear, large signature.
