    Description

    An affordable and excellent grade for this rare type.
    Just graded at PCGS. It showed some compromise to the surfaces and I expected it would end up grading Genuine but sent it in since a coin of this value needs to be authenticated and to have determination of the details level and scope of surface compromise.
    AU details is, in my opinion, a VERY worthwhile level-up from the VF and lower XF coins because these as well as the Draped Bust gold in the 1/2 denomination do not hold up well to circulation wear. The original strike detail is just too fine and they start looking terrible with fairly little circulation wear.
    A Smoothed-Surfaces XF details coin with some heavy marks for a coin of it's size just brought 00 at Heritage so this one is attractively priced around auction value considering the value difference of over 50% for AU vs. XF.
