Description
In this part-printed document John Jay, as Governor of New York,appoints a Jacobus Hardenbergh "Cornet of a Troop in the Second Squadron of Cavalry in the Second Division of the Militia." Jay has signed under the embossed paper seal at the left margin.
Paper document measures: 8" x 15" and is elaborately framed with a portrait to: 15 1/2" x 30".
John Jay (1745-1829) served as the 2nd Governor of the State of New York from 1795 to 1801. He was also the first Chief Justice of the United States (1789-1795).
Condition:
Document is laid on a pasteboard support, light fold lines, generally good condition (not examined out of frame).
